Climbing that mountain of lead

Painting Blog 16

It's been nearly 6 months since the last painting blog, so why not do another one!

Since all of the minis below have some part or other that's transparent and to avoid frosting those parts, I took the opportunity to varnish them by hand! I can't recollect having done that before?

Ganjees is not just an Indian restaurant or misspelling of a river in India. If you're a Fighting Fantasy aficionado, you may know that the Ganjees are flying undead heads.
It actually is possible to buy minis for Ganjees but they were out of stock at that time. Instead I bought some generic male heads (Not sure who the manufacturer is?) and untook the somewhat frustrating process of gluing them to flight stands before painting them. I also added a bit detail more to the bases, otherwise they look a little empty.

There just heads, there's not to say about them. Some of them have pretty good expressions!

Beware the flying undead heads! Woooo!
These giant flies come from the Rangers of Shadow Deep range. They're a pretty straight paintjob and again, I added a bit more detail to the bases. They look good enough for menacing insects. Buzzzt!

Beware the giant flying err.... flies?
Both of these figures are casting spells and have 'spell effects' that are made of transparent plastic.
I put washes on the spell effects to try and give them a translucent quality instead of painting them. It's hard to see from the photos but it sort of worked on the yellow lighting but not so much on the red bardic spell effect from the lyre on the right.

The mini on the left is a human sorcerer, he has a unremarkable pose but the crackling lighting from his hands give him a dynamic look which I like.
The mini on the right a elf bard and with a magic effect originating  from his bard as he plays/casts a spell. It's a nice pose but it made the painting trickier than I would like.
Both are plastic figures from Wizkid's Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures range.
