Who are Special Effect?
SpecialEffect are a UK-based charity who use video games and technology to enhance the quality of life of people with physical disabilities.

What is GameBlast?
GameBlast is the UK’s biggest annual charity gaming marathon weekend in aid of SpecialEffect. It’s the perfect way to help change the lives of disabled gamers and have a blast at the same time.
This year GameBlast22 takes place over the weekend of 25th-27th February 2022.
GameBlast wants you!
GameBlast is open to anyone who wants participate.
GameBlast participants typically challenge themselves to complete some gaming objective over a 24 hour period and ideally this is streamed.
This doesn't have to be a single 24 hour event, it can be broken up in any way you see fit.
Challenges do not need to be related to video games, Any kind of game will do. In fact anything you do raise money will do.
If gaming isn't your thing, feel free to do anything you want to raise money.

The Challenge
This year I will be playing the remastered version of The Bard's Tale Trilogy, a classic CRPG from the 80's.

So that's another GameBlast done. The Bard's Tale was a reasonably fun game but also a typically old school frustrating experience. I managed to beat my goal and as of writing, GameBlast22 has raised £194,000 for Special effect. Interestingly, The Bard's Tale records a number of playing stats: It turns out I walked 14,921 steps, had 7,339 turns and obtained 1,145,923 XP! |

Back in the day, I think that Bard's Tale was the first CRPG I ever played, on my Amstrad CPC6128.
I did some digging in the loft and only unearthed the cover art, the game was nowhere to be found.

5 weeks to GameBlast22!
Since Covid-19/Omicron is still very much present in the UK, it was again agreed by all that we should put off gathering as a group for the time being.
This year then, I shall be playing through the remastered Bard's Tale Trilogy, an update of the classic 80's CRPG.
