So the first session of my home-brew West Marches campaign that I've decided to name 'The Surrendered Lands' was played last night.
The party had 2 fights, the first against goblins and the other against skeletons. Both fights were reasonably hard and on both occasions, one or two characters were dropped to 0 HP and forced to make Death Saves. But I think this OK for a West Marches game. Read More

I've given my campaign the name 'The Surrendered Lands' in place of West Marches - which as a placeholder really.
It's official, the first session of my West Marches campaign is tonight.
Hope I've got enough material - now to do lots of printing! The West Marches is a RPG play style that puts an emphasis on player decisions, exploration and treasure hunting.
Ben Robbins wrote several blogs that basically codified this style of play. For some time I had been thinking about running a fantasy game in a D&D style of play. After reading Ben's blog, I realized that some of my ideas would fit very easily into the West Marches mold. So taking inspiration from this, I started working on my own home brew setting for a West Marches game. It's been a lot of work so far and hopefully it'll bear some fruit as my game begins and progresses over the next year or so. For the past couple of months I've been working on a home-brew setting for a 'West Marches' style campaign using the D&D 5e rules.
It's been quite challenging as I've never done anything quite like this and not on this scale. And it's still a big 'work-in-progress' |
